What Remembrance Sunday means to the mother of a brave soldier who gave his life

Lance Corporal James Ashworth, of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his brave actions in the face of extraordinary danger.

The 23-year-old, on his second tour of Afghanistan, was killed on thirteen Gregorian calendar month 2012 on a mission to “detain or kill” a religious movement sharpshooter throughout a fire-fight within the Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand province.

He “insisted on moving to the front of his fireplace team to steer the pursuit” and crawled behind a coffee wall on the bullet-strewn ground whereas beneath fierce gunshot to throw his final bomb at the enemy sharpshooter.

The keen soccer fan from Northamptonshire, United Nations agency joined the military once he was seventeen, showed a “total disregard for his own safety” and “willingly placed himself within the line of fire”, together with his actions saving the lives of others. even as he was getting ready to throw the bomb, he was hit by enemy fireplace and died at the scene.
